I didn't get to experience a retreat until I worked in ministry. I was in my 20's and fell in love immediately. Initially, my retreats were related to work, so they were filled with social time, eating, walks, games, sharing and maybe a speaker.

After twenty years in different ministry settings, I started to see other examples of retreats and how adding the element of spiritual rhythm enriched the experience.

As I've aged, my life has become more. More complicated, more joyful, more to consider - just more. And so, as a matter of principle - I make time to retreat.

Retreats can be anything you want them to be really.

Some retreats are truly just about resting. Others are a desperate need of connection to Jesus. Some are focused on reflection and prayer. Others need people in them to share food and laughter. While others are about exploring the unknown or unleashing your creativity in joyful abandonment. Whatever way you choose to retreat, Jesus meets you there if you invite Him.
